Stop ogling my Google!
Okay, yeah, I finally broke down. That's right. I gave in.
"Gave in to what," you
ask?

Ads. That's right. After years of saying
stupid things like "I don't need ads on AspireNow" and "ads will clutter
my website" or "advertising is a sellout" I realized that not only are
advertisements a part of any typical publishing experience, they are a
necessity.
|
|
|
|
Think about it: when was
the last time that a newspaper publisher didn't sell either:
classifieds, or print ads, or both, in order to sell their paper? Hmm.
Think that maybe, just maybe, there is a valid business reason for this?
Cash is king. Without cash
flow, I cannot write much to share with you. It's a harsh reality I
learned the hard way. Okay, I digress. Let's continue.
Since when does a magazine
not sell ads to pay for their copy materials?
And, have you seen a
television program without advertisements? Yeah, HBO. Okay, but don't
they pay for it by charging you for their "PREMIUM" channels? Most
television shows, whether it be History Channel, or ABC, show
advertisements between show segments.
All ads considered,
common-sense prevailed: I broke down, and put ads on AspireNow. But, you
know what? I kind of like them. I'll tell you why:
Now people can find even
more relevant information relating to what brought them to AspireNow in
the first place. So, the ads not only make my company money, they also
are serving a useful purpose to the eyeballs browsing this site.
Not only that, but since
I'm putting ads on the site, I figured I might as well go all out,
reformat EVERY page of the site, and include sidebar ads, top ads,
bottom ads, and in-article ads. The only thing I haven't done is put
nasty pop-up video ads on my pages. Why? Because I hate pop-up ads!!!
That's right, I like to surf the web. And, if there is anything I
distain, even if they do work, it's a pop-up ad that I have to click to
get rid of in order to read the content I'm surfing. Even worse, is the
dreaded "where do I click" pop-up ad that never seems to go away.
So, before you get
too worked up and get your panties in a bunch over the new ad-based
format at AspireNow, you could at least appreciate that now you know
where to go from here, and on top of it, you don't have dreaded pop-ups
to surf through to get there.
In addition, I kept
AspireNow ad-free for SEVEN years before putting up ads. What does that
mean to you? Well, nothing, other than if you've been here before you
had the leisure of reading all of these articles for FREE without any
consideration to whether I was paid for it or not. I just asked my
dear friend, Mr. Wallet, and he replied that in most cases this was a "not"
rather than a
ca-ching! (Hint, hint, did you see the donate to AspireNow link yet? If
you've been reading our articles for free, you're overdue. So,
blame the past. Or your past. If you have to blame anyone. We'd just as
soon you didn't blame anyone. So, contribute in some way. They say money
is just a form of energy. So, perhaps you could send some love our way,
in the form of communication energy, by sharing this site with your
friends. At least tell a hundred people about AspireNow so that we get
the benefit of word of mouth from your benefit. Makes since to me! I
tell people about websites all the time.

The thing that clinched
the decision to put up ads was when I was reading a blog from Steve
Pavlina (www.StevePavlina.com). He bragged that he was making over
$1,000 a day off of his ads. Funny thing is, Steve doesn't really have
content that different from mine, here at AspireNow, on his blog at
www.StevePavlina.com. In fact, he has fewer contributors to his blog
than we have through our Aspiration Advocates. He hasn't created any
cool tools like the AspireNow Advisor. And, he isn't really linking to
other sites very much. Therefore, his network is smaller. And, he thinks
more logic-oriented, than spirituality-based like I am. That said, those
are also his strengths, too. If you're more of a logical person, Steve's
stuff might make more sense for you. Personally, I'm looking forward to
meeting Steve because he inspired me to do something bigger with
AspireNow. After all, I'd started this back in 1999, way before Steve's
blog in 2005. And, I was not making anywhere close to $1,000 a day
when I made the decision to put ads on the site. In fact, so far, I'm
still just looking forward to my first $10,000.00, let alone $10,000
month. I give Steve kudos for
his success, and look forward to meeting him some day soon, and am ever
so grateful for his wisdom showing me to the light on using ads.
Now, you may have also
noticed that most of my ads are by Google. Why Google? Well, I had to
choose something. And, I'm lazy. I know, I look like a work-a-holic to
most people, because I work a lot of hours. But all of this is fun for
me. And, if you know me well, you know I'm all about having FUN! I hate
computer programming and having to "check" accounts. Those
things are just necessary
evils, to me. So, I limited my ads to just two forms of ads, initially,
commission junction, and Google. And, Google was easier to use and
monitor. So, CJ lost and Google won out. I may still give Yahoo a try.
They're giving it an attempt to be competitive, so we'll see. I'm also
in the process of setting up a formal advertising program for people to
purchase certain key targeted ad space at AspireNow and
www.AdvancedBreakthroughs.com, so if you're interested in purchasing
space, let me know.
But for now, if you really
feel the need to ogle my Google, please do. I was only kidding about the
title of this article.

Scott Andrews gave up quite a bit to create this
website (months/years of high-paying salary, for one, let alone the
time investment). If you enjoy AspireNow articles, why not donate to
AspireNow, so you can share in the joy of giving, too? |
