We
have discussed the Pareto Principle - the 80/20 rule of eliminating
the clutter in our schedules.
Now,
we discuss how "less is MORE".
The concept is
basic. The less we do, the more effective we will be. The focus to
being effective is to be more efficient. When we spend less time doing
things we don't want to do, we have more time to do the things we love. By
doing the things we love, we are more enthusiastic, confident and knowledgeable -
therefore, highly likely to be more EFFECTIVE as well.
In this state you now
have the opportunity to become more effective by doing what you really want to
do. And isn't that what you want, anyway?
We can try doing less
-- and see the result of doing
what we love -- enabling us to truly do "more" in the same amount of
time. One additional key to the "Less is More" mentality is to ACCEPT
and APPRECIATE our decision as the RIGHT ONE. This is hard to grasp,
sometimes, especially when our support group is NOT supportive of some of
the things we give up. Support groups may include family, friends, bosses,
coworkers, or basically anyone disrupted by our decision to do less.
I'm not advocating
shirking our family or job responsibilities; but rather, to focus
our efforts on the things where we perform best, and outsource or delegate
the rest (if possible).
It is a simple concept,
doing what we love. If I don't love something, for one week or one
month - I don't do it. See what happens when you try this in your life. You'll find
yourself with more time on your hands than you ever imagined.
